Designer Chandelier
What you'll need:
Here's everything you'll need to get it right the first time.
  • Chandelier
  • Feather duster
  • Newspaper
  • Gloss Black

Dramatic lighting can bring glamour to a room with ease. Chandeliers in bold colours are available in designer stores if you are willing to pay a premium. A quick, easy and inexpensive alternative is to take an inexpensive second hand store chandelier and transform it yourself with decorative paint - if you already have a chandelier, you can make it over at barely any cost.

Tip: It is important to ensure the chandelier is dust-free before painting even if it is new.

Step-by Step Guide

  • If you are using an existing chandelier, turn off the power supply from the circuit breaker. Always use caution when working with electricity. Remove the bulbs.
  • Use a feather duster to remove any dust from the chandelier.
  • Lay out newspaper in your working area. Crumple up small pieces of newspaper and place them in each bulb fitting to shield the connections from paint.
  • Spray lightly with Gloss Black, working your way around the chandelier and building up thin layers until you have the desired colour depth. Do the same with any individual fittings.
  • Reassemble the chandelier when dry.

Note: Always follow usage instructions on the reverse of Valspar spray paint cans.
